Catchy tunes from classical music, operetta and film
Without Jewish composers such as Offenbach or Meyerbeer, popular hits from the operatic repertoire would be missing, and without their collaboration with librettists such as Fritz Rotter, Fritz Grünbaum or Hans Fritz Beckmann, the timeless hits of the golden age of operetta from *Walzertraum* or *Weißen Rössl* would not exist, and popular music from the 1920s and 1940s – the world of the musical – would be unthinkable without Frederic Loewe’s *My Fair Lady* or Harold Arlen’s *Over the Rainbow*.
The hits by the brothers George and Ira Gershwin are still an essential part of any stage show today, and even the non-Jewish songwriter Cole Porter asserted that he owed his success solely to Jewish composers, declaring: ‘I’ll write Jewish tunes!’.
A musical smorgasbord featuring entertaining evergreens.
- Featuring Andrea Chudak (soprano/presenter), Ekaterina Gorynina (cello) and Alex Ilenko (piano).
