Film night with the director Sylvie Kürsten

The Friends of the Willy Brandt House will be screening the film *Go Clara Go*, about the artists’ collective Clara Mosch, on Thursday 12 November 2026 at 6.00 pm.

Since the 1970s, a handful of artists and the co-operatively run Galerie Oben, together with Clara Mosch, have demonstrated that art in the GDR can be free.

Following the screening, there will be a discussion with director Sylvie Kürsten and the former director of Galerie Oben, Gunnar Barthel.

About the film:

With her documentary *Go Clara Go: The Art of Creative Resistance*, director Sylvie Kürsten sheds light on an exceptional chapter in East German art history. Together with the protagonists from that era, she traces the creative energy of this subcultural hotbed on the edge of the Saxon Ore Mountains – and delves deep into this legendary GDR parallel world, where art and life were always intertwined. This attracted numerous fans, but also Stasi informers. A cinematic celebration of non-conformist art from the East and a tribute to her homeland.
