A live audiovisual performance
Gaskačázis is a Northern Sámi word referring to the space beneath the surface. The project explores the intersection between nature, indigenous culture and modern technology. Using tools such as contact microphones and a microscope, recordings were made that offer the audience insights into spaces that are normally invisible and inaudible. The improvised joik serves to link the various elements together.
Nature in Sápmi faces major challenges due to human intervention. This is causing irreversible changes to the landscape and its ecosystems. The project invites us to reflect on a world in flux. Sound and visual elements interact in real time, creating an ever-changing environment that focuses on presence, attention and sensitivity to change.
The project is supported by the Sametinget in Norway, Arts Council Norway and the Nordland County Council.
