Friedrich Schiller: ‘The Robbers’ for the pop music generation
Bridge Markland transforms Schiller’s ‘Sturm und Drang’ drama *The Robbers* into a fast-paced one-woman-and-puppets show featuring full playback. Rebellion, envy, love, stubbornness, delusions of grandeur and despair form the fabric of the drama.

Markland amplifies Schiller’s intense language with 155 song recordings, film scores and film quotes. These range from Wagner’s ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ to Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’ and Ennio Morricone’s hit ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’. Schiller’s texts are heard off-stage, spoken by various actors and actresses.
Bridge Markland slips in and out of nine roles in rapid succession and works with a wide variety of Ken dolls and a Barbie as her co-stars.
Running time: 90 mins + 15-minute interval
