CLOSER TO TEA

On 7 and 8 November 2026, the international tea community will once again gather at the silent green Kulturquartier. Now in its seventh year, the Berlin Tea Festival will bring around 70 exhibitors to Berlin – roughly half of whom are attending the festival for the first time.

Under the guiding principle ‘CLOSER TO TEA’, the 2026 edition will place particular emphasis on the direct presence of producers from the regions of origin. Tea makers and producers from China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Malawi will be travelling to Berlin to present their teas in person and speak first-hand about cultivation, processing, quality and contemporary tea culture.

Closer to its origins. Closer to its craft. Closer to the people behind it. Closer together.

“Tea should have no barriers”

The guiding principle ‘CLOSER TO TEA’ was conceived by co-founder Yi Yuan and describes an ethos that has underpinned the festival since its inception in 2018:

“With Closer to Tea, we want to bridge the gaps – between origin and audience, between producers and consumers, between knowledge and curiosity. Tea should have no barriers. You can simply start tasting, listening and asking questions.”

In doing so, the Berlin Tea Festival continues along the path it has taken so far: not only presenting tea through products and tastings, but also making it accessible through knowledge, personal encounters and cultural exchange.

Around 55 programme items: listening to, colouring, seeing and rediscovering tea

Alongside the exhibition, visitors can look forward to a programme featuring around 55 workshops, talks, tastings, tea ceremonies, seminars, film screenings and hands-on activities in the cinema and the four studios. These must be booked separately.

Some of these events offer unusual perspectives on tea: *The Echo of the Leaf* brings to life the acoustic world of tea fields, roasting houses and porcelain workshops. In one workshop, used tea leaves are employed to dye textiles. The documentary *The Tea of Time* follows producers and traders in Chinese tea-growing regions and highlights the tension between time-consuming tea production and an increasingly fast-paced, digitalised market.

Other programme highlights include historical and contemporary tea preparation methods, tea and scent, ceramics, water, and direct exchanges with producers and experts.

Unlimited tasting – with the BTF tasting cup 2026

Unlimited tea tastings remain at the heart of the Main Days. From gyokuro, matcha and oolong, through pu-erh and black tea, to Darjeeling and speciality herbal teas, visitors can compare different origins, styles and flavour profiles.

In 2026, a specially selected BTF tasting cup will once again be included with every ticket. The new model, featuring a warm, jade-like glaze, has been chosen for the tastings and can be taken home afterwards as a festival souvenir.
