UNFOLDING

Using a pared-back six-colour palette, she creates paintings that suggest rather than explain, and invite rather than provoke. The works in this exhibition do not follow any predetermined theme. Rather, they represent stages in a year during which many things changed for the artist simultaneously: a new city, a new direction in her art, and, in December, the birth of her first child.

Thus, a certain quality does emerge as a theme: constant change. From the familiar into the unknown, from waiting into becoming. The exhibition invites visitors to pause for a moment and sense how, in that very instant, time and space unfold.

About Anna Zender

“My art is rooted in a longing to translate atmosphere and emotion into painting. My enthusiasm for feminine nature and beauty in all its diversity is a major source of inspiration, and music is my key driving force.”

Anna Zender first came into contact with portrait painting whilst studying industrial design at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle an der Saale. In 2020, she independently organised and staged her first solo art exhibition, thereby laying the foundation for her career as a freelance artist. This was followed by two further major exhibitions, each of which she had documented in a short film.

Her vision of living out her calling as an artist has led Anna from Halle via Berlin back to her home town. Born in St. Wendel in the Saarland in 1997, she will open Galerie 32 in 2023, where she will combine a studio, course facilities and exhibition space until 2026.

This year, the artist has moved her base back to Berlin and is continuing to work on her new series of works from there.
